VOICE OF THE OPPRESSED

Yes, I speak to you,

Don't look back, you yourself,

Advocate of the "four-branched" whip,

Lord of the stinking flies,

Feeling on top of the world!

.

I speak to you,

Just as in the slave trade,

Here you are,

Obnoxious as ever,

With your kolanut-stained teeth,

Ruling in tyranny!

.

I speak to you,

Tho' your predecessors were kind,

You choose to leave their people,

Those at your mercy,

Writhing in the early morning sun,

A SUN of blessings becomes one of suffering!

.

We speak to you,

Now when our labour we should enjoy,

You show up and consume the palm oil,

The only companion to our roasted yam!

.

Now because of you,

We have to eat like slaves,

While you're watching from your chauffeur driven drive,

No better than a rickety "napep"

.

You, clothed in our gold,

Peep out of the tinted windows,

To "see how we're faring"

When actually you're mocking,

"Mr Lousy", you say to those who never went to school,

And they, thinking of it as honour,

Run after your dust-raising jeep,

Following blindly like lambs to the slaughter!
