DEVOUR

"Mummy, I don't know when you will stop this act, we've said it over and over again, that a Sunday afternoon meal isn't one to waste time on, we need a quick one, moreso there's a program we need to attend in less than 2 hours....."

Blah blah blah, on and on I went expressing my displeasure with my mom's doing. Well, don't blame me, at least not yet. Here's the situation;

It's like a family commitment that we normally do not eat on Sunday mornings before church, I know most of y'all don't too.. So after the service, what's usually on my mind is the fastest meal that can be made, so we can all satisfy our bellies. But my mom chooses this particular day to cook time consuming delicacies all in the name of changing our taste, so it isn't much surprising to find Mummy trying to prepare a swallow to be eaten with the most complex soups there is- on a Sunday afternoon. Now the thing is, apart from the long process, we still have to be actively involved in the cooking on empty stomachs! And my siblings and I talk about this all the time but Mummy never agrees.

This particular one was a case of pounded yam and "efo riro". I just thought we were cooking yam not knowing there were other plans to be unleashed.

The fact that Mummy's habit is only hard to bear till we start eating the food is another story entirely. Where I'm going today is the way I consumed the 'iyan' that day. I ate delightfully and even added some more from my brother's portion.

And that made me think of how happy the enemy is to devour any slacking Christian.

Apostle Peter said in his book;

Be careful! Watch out for attacks from the Devil, your great enemy. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for some victim to devour.

1Pet.5.8 [NLT]

This is a challenge to me and should be to you as well, that our lives may not be available to the devil as food he consumes. Getting closer to God day after day is very essential in these times. I'm praying for myself that the current situation in the country will not be able to make me prey to the devil, and I hope you're praying that too!

Remain Blessed.

Please leave your thoughts in the comments, thanks!

  1. Wow! This is so wonderful. More grace for you in Jesus name.

    I can relate to that part where mum will decide to prepare a special delicacy when it's obvious everybody is really hungry.
